TY - JOUR AU - Gol'dshtein, N. AB - To prevent the mix, a high-concentration suspension, from separating into layers, tests were carried out with additives Hke molasses, an emulsifier (sodium silicate solution with added emulsified aliphatic acid C7-C9) , and DS-RAS (a Soviet-produced detergent in the form of refined alkylaryl sulfonate). The most effective additive was 0.1% molasses, i.e,, it gave a stable mix. The influence of the additive on the technological properties of the mix was assessed from the relative height of the transparent, mobile, and sediment layers formed by the mix after standing (see Table 1). The sediment formed after the mix had stood for 7 and 24 h was plastic and mixed readily with the other layers. The working state of the mix remains intact for a week. Tests with this eoatingin the open-hearth division of the Zaporozhstal' Plant showed that the incidence of the plug breaking away at the start of pouring decreased by 57% and that the loss of metal was lower.
