Figure I shows the Editor's prologue written in 1888 to justify the birth of the Journal. The midwives in 1888 were Drs M. Morris and H.G. Brook. In their prologue they obviously feel the need to justify the introduction of a specialist Journal, and 100 years on it is very clear from a brief glance at the medical journal shelves of any large library that large numbers of potential Editors have TIIE EDITORS' PROLOGUE. 1888 IT will be allowed tliat the interests of tlic special brandies of so complex a science as tlmt of medicine are best developed and maintained when those wlio itre enf^aped in them have at tlieir disposal separato literary channels for the interchange of ideas.
