TY - JOUR AB - AIMCAL 2003 AWARDS The Association of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) gave five of its seven AIMCAL awards for the year 2003 to metallized products which involved the use of films. These were given for the four Technical Awards and for the Peter Rigney Package of the Year Award. The Rigney award was given to converter Unifoil of Passaic Park, New Jersey for its holographic heart rendition of Elizabeth Arden’s Forever Elizabeth fragrance box. CFC International of Chicago, Illinois metallized the PET film which was then printed with a holographic pattern by Unifoil before it was laminated to paperboard. A gold-colored metallized 12 mm-thick strip of PET film was used to hide the glue lines and add a further touch of elegance. In the Food Category, the technical award was given to Super Film Ambalaj Sanayi Ve Ticaret A.S. of Basinpar, Turkey for a metallized laminate which was used to wrap NEBA margarine. This package used Supmet 1132MD cavitated, opaque biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) that was vacuum metallized to result in a 4% yield improvement over its closest competitor, parchment paper.
