AB - With healthcare assistants (HCAs) and assistant practitioners (APs) becoming ingrained members of the nursing team, they are increasingly likely to be involved in the care of patients' wounds. This article will provide a brief guide to aid the understanding of tissue viability; wound terminology, the physiology of wound healing and techniques to aid wound healing. An outline of the role of HCAs and APs in the provision of safe and effective wound care will also be discussed.
