Sokolovich UDC 624.138.4 Increasing importance attaches to chemical strengthening of ground. Using this technique, Soviet hydraulic engineers have constructed the world's largest antifiltration screen in the foundation bed of the Aswan High Dam, in which the volume of strengthened ground is about 2 million m 3. For the first time anywhere in the world, the Soviet Union has constructed houses on founda- tions of strengthened ground. Chemical strengthening has been widely used for reinforcing foundations under existing buildings. Research is being carried out on effective and economic chemical methods of deep-seated strengthen- ing of ground. Over the past three years the Chemical Strengthening Laboratory of the Scientific-Research Institute for Foundations has developed new methods of chemical strengthening of ground, and has performed inves- tigations which have shed a light on many difficult problems in this field. The chief new methods are gaseous silicatization of sandy and loessial ground, gaseous stabilization of loessial soil prone to slump-type settlement, improvement of the silicofluoro-silicate "formula" of the single-solution method of silicatization of sandy ground, and a new method of marked strengthening of de- compacted carbonate soils by TI - New developments in the chemical strengthening of ground JF - Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering DO - 10.1007/BF01733855 DA - 1971-03-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/new-developments-in-the-chemical-strengthening-of-ground-UMEDf9QKtt SP - 114 EP - 118 VL - 8 IS - 2 DP - DeepDyve ER -
