TY - JOUR AU - Zhu, Dunming AB - The cover picture shows two one‐pot processes for the bioenzymatic synthesis of ethyl (R)‐3‐hydroxyglutarate (EHG), a key intermediate for the synthesis of rosuvastatin, from ethyl (S)‐4‐chloro‐3‐hydroxybutyrate (ECHB). In their Full Paper Q. Wu, D. Zhu and co‐workers show how in a one‐pot two‐step process the intermediate ethyl (R)‐4‐cyano‐3‐hydroxybutyate (HN) can be synthesized by using Escherichia coli cells expressing a halohydrin dehalogenase gene, followed by hydrolysis to EHG with Escherichia coli cells expressing a nitrilase gene. The recombinant Escherichia coli cells co‐expressing halohydrin dehalogenase and nitrilase genes can be used in a one‐pot one‐step process to produce EHG directly. The article highlighted by this cover can be found on p. 1438 ff. of Issue 9, 2015.
