Orlova The device (Fig. 1) is a combination of pneumatic shuttle and mechanical swinging conveyor. It can transfer radioactive sources in special cartridges from the radioactive-materials handling room to the op- erating room and return the used ones. The pneumatic shuttle operates on the vacuum principle (to rule out escape of air into the operating room). Needles, applicators, nylon threads with sources, etc., can be placed in the cartridge. The shuttle is controlled from points located in the handling and operating rooms and the conveyor from a control panel mounted on the swinging part of the conveyor. The sources prepared on the manipulator are placed together with a sterile vessel into the cartridge which is sealed on top by a cover having spring clamps. The cartridge is loaded into the dispatching sta- tion by means of a portable manipulator. By pushing the "start" button on the control pannel in the handling room or at the receiving-dispatching station in the operating room the propulsion plant is turned on, and the cartridge with TI - Device for transporting radioactive sources to the operating room JF - Biomedical Engineering DO - 10.1007/BF00561701 DA - 2004-10-16 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/device-for-transporting-radioactive-sources-to-the-operating-room-TaLCexXTVF SP - 127 EP - 128 VL - 7 IS - 2 DP - DeepDyve ER -
