AB - Based on all data currently available, immobilization of potentially hazardous radionuclides in borosilicate glass will result in a product of good chemical durability. Appropriately selected metal alloy containers can also prevent any degradation of the waste glass for an appreciable length of time. Burial of the waste glass products, as part of a multibarrier isolation system within a geologic environment, will provide an effective system, not simply to store high-level radioactive waste, but also to permanently dispose of it.
