T he purpose of this paper is to discuss the principle of the Anti- H um an G lobulin (A.H.G.) consumption test, and to describe a modification of the test as described by Steffen, which wc believe to be less time-consuming, and less subject to error because of the reduced n um ber of steps involved. Experience using this procedure is described in detail in a separate paper (1). Steffen, who was the first to describe the procedure (2) has obtained positive results in a large num ber of cases of rheum atoid arthritis, rheum atic heart disease (3) ; and to a somewhat lesser degree in immuno-leukopcnia (4), and in immuno-thrombocyto- penia (5). He believes th at he has been able to demonstrate the presence o f auto-antibodies against the fixed tissue cells of the bone- marrow in cases of acquired haemolytic anaem ia (6).
