In this book, he provides an analysis of the ways in which the intro- duction of Western forms of education in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) created sys- temic inequalities and inequities. He examines the ways in which the history and realities of practices of slavery, a Christian proselytising agenda, colonialism and subjugation have impacted groups and communities in SSA. He shows how Western forms of schooling were instrumental in dismantling, dislocating and reconfiguring the social structures of colonised societies. The book is divided into two parts. Part I is entitled “Theorizations on Marginality and Education” and consists of three chapters. The introductory chapter discusses “marginality” as a conceptual framework.
