Smirnov 5-085.281.221.1 In the local treatment of a tuberculous cavity a drug in liquid or powder form is in- jected into the cavity through a catheter. For the transthoracic insertion of the catheter into the cavity a trocar with stylet with a pointed tip and an external tube is usually used. The operation of insertion of the trocar into the cavity is made more difficult by the fact that the instrument has no detector to indicate the time when the distal part of the trocar has entered the cavity. Puncture of the cavity is therefore carried out as a rule under x- ray control and, in some cases, manometric measurements also are used. This involves the use of expensive apparatus, additional exposure of the patient and staff to radiation, and high specialist skill on the part of the physician. The object of this work was to design an indicator-trocar by means of which the moment of penetrationof the pointed end of the trocar through the wall of the cavity can be reli- ably determined The instrument contains a tubular styler 2, rigidly fixed in the handle 5 (Figs.
