AB - Book Reviews 1447 different policy areas, such as the problems of migrant workers and the priva- tization of social services. However, restricted by this assessment framework, many of these issues were not dealt with adequately or in full detail. This is especially true for newly arisen issues such as environmental protection, food hygiene and safety, and the globalization of social policy. It could have been improved by adding a few chapters on contemporary issues. Of course, the length of the book may not have allowed such a course of action. Yet, even with these limitations, the book is a valuable addition to the English language literature on social policy in China. It provides a general over- view of five major social policy areas, with critical assessment delivered through a framework emphasizing human development and well-being. Reference Chan, C.
