TY - JOUR AU - Parums, D. V. AB - INTRODUCTION We report a case of a rare tumour in the lung, EHE, which originally presented on bronchial brushing cytology, with subsequent histology, immunohistochemistry and electronmicroscopy. This is the first report of the presentation of EHE on bronchial brushing cytology and highlights the role of endothelial cell markers in the diagnosis of this endothelial cell neoplasm. CASE REPORT A 63-year-old man presented with right-sided chest pain, cough and a peripheral right lower lobe lung shadow on chest x-ray. He was a non-smoker with no other lung disease or known extrapulmonary primary tumours. Computed tomography (CT) scan showed a large peripheral lower lobe tumour and two smaller nodules in the middle and upper lobes with no evidence of mediastinal lymphadenopathy. He underwent bronchoscopy, at which time bronchial brushings were taken which showed malignant cells (Figure 1). A right posterolateral thoracotomy was performed with biopsy of the smaller nodules. Histology of these was negative for malignancy; one nodule was a benign chondroid hamartoma and the other showed a focus of fibrosis and chronic inflammation. Two weeks later, the patient was re-admitted for a right lower lobectomy. The right lower lobectomy specimen revealed a peripheral ‘wedge-shaped’ tumour measuring 15 15 4 TI - A case of epithelioid haemangioendothelioma (EHE) of the lung with bronchial brushing cytology JO - Cytopathology DO - 10.1046/j.1365-2303.1999.00111.x DA - 1999-03-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wiley/a-case-of-epithelioid-haemangioendothelioma-ehe-of-the-lung-with-OmAMlhGZyh SP - 132 VL - 10 IS - 2 DP - DeepDyve ER -
