AB - A simple electronic circuit consisting of two transistors, a relay and a power supply, is controlled by a contact thermometer. A two-phase motor drives a variac continuously but very slowly. More or less resistance is switched synchronously with the turn direction of the motor, so that the `on' and `off' periods are always equal, and independent of the energy input.
