Kemdirim TOWARDS INCLUSIVENESS FOR WOMEN IN THE AFRICAN CHURCHES Gender issues in the present century are getting more emphasised than ever before. The possibilities inherent in being both human and female have never been so widely investigated or acted on as today In the Churchy for instance, the acceptance of women into the ordained ministry is a fait accompli, underscoring as it were equitable treatment for women. In the African Churches, however, the case of women and their demand to be allowed fuller participation at all levels in Church life remains a subject of endless debate. In Nigeria, for instance, one result of this debate is the crisis' that engulfs the Church of Nigerian Anglican Communion. Similarly, the Methodist Church of Nigeria is no less at ease, as some dioceses of the Church are wont to admit women also into the ministry.3 On its part, the Catholic Church continues to insist with one voice that women cannot be ordained priests. The Presbyterian Church of Nigeria is the only Church in Nigeria that has seen the ordination of women as one of the great issues of Christian justice for women.
