TY - JOUR AU - Pogorelova, I. AB - Proceeding on the basis of an analysis of established methods and equipment for removing scale from metal products, we designed a unit having an induction heater made of ferromagnet- ic steel with an aluminum coating (Fig. i). The scale on the product is subjected to thermal decomposition by electromagnetic mixing of the melt in the presence of eddy currents formed from two oppositely directed electromag- netic fluxes. Thanks to high electrochemical activity, the productivity of the unit is twice as great as comparable models. The ferromagnetic properties of the induction coil make it possible to use its material as a magnetic circuit. The coil, made of magnet steel, is rela- tively lightweight and inexpensive and is very efficient. The Nikopol' plant has just completed construction of its seventh tube-pickling facility. Here, the tubes are heated to 550~ by an uncooled ferromagnetic coil made of aluminized steel. Such heater can be successfully used for the electrical heating and melting of zinc, aluminum, and other metals and salts.
