Luckert : In 1964, EMS-Inventa AG constructed and started up the first installations for production of complex polyesters in Japan and Switzerland based on its own "know-how." Dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) and ethylene glycol (EG) were the raw ,materials for the installation built in Japan. The line in Switzerland was the first one equipped for production of complex polyester, where terephthalic acid (TPA) was used instead of DMT for the first time. Although polyester was primarily fabricated by the periodic method until the beginning of the 1970s, the continuous "process is now preferred in new plants. A comparison of the periodic method with continuous technology and direct mek spinning of the fibre led to the following conclusions: the periodic method is characterized by high flexibility; the equipment can be adjusted without costly cleaning operations and without significant production of low-quality product (rejects). For this reason, the periodic method is primarily used for production of polymeric articles in small volumes, for example, bulk-dyed fibre, antipilling products, cation-active dyed fibres, and copolyesters for production of low-melting fibres, as adhesive material, etc. The disadvantages of the periodic method include the impossibility, even with advanced technology, TI - Method for processing (mixing) polyester melt JF - Fibre Chemistry DO - 10.1007/BF00548379 DA - 2004-10-13 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/method-for-processing-mixing-polyester-melt-Ly9pzK0lI3 SP - 216 EP - 219 VL - 26 IS - 4 DP - DeepDyve ER -
