AB - Recently a number of researchers have attempted to computerize the pattern recognition process for control charts. These researchers utilized knowledge based systems with various techniques and heuristic rules. Results of the three systems were mixed. Presents the various techniques and results of these researchers. Makes a comparison of the successes and failures of the three systems. Seeks to define the common weaknesses and problems in these studies, and then determine if the weaknesses can be overcome in future studies.
