TY - JOUR AU - Follick, Michael J. AB - Within a twelve month period ranging from December 1977 to November 1978 there were a number of major developments which denlonstrate the wave of interest in behavioral medicine. In December, 1977 the Behavioral Medicine Special Interest Group was formed within the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy. Membership in this group is now over 650. In the early months of 1978 Volume 1, Number 1 of the Journal of Behavioral Medicine was published by Plenum Press. In April of 1978 the Academy of Behavioral Medicine Research was founded under the auspices of the National Academy of Sciences. Finally, this swell of interest culminated with the formation of the Society of Behavioral Medicine in November, 1978. During this first critical year, the newsletter, Behavioral Medicine Update, will be the most visible activity of the Society along with the first annual meeting in December, 1979. Elsewhere in this issue the President and the Committee ,Chairpersons request your participation in the Society and its committees. Likewise, we seek your help with the newsletter. We want Behavioral Medicine Update to be very responsive to your interests and needs. You can playa large part in determining its format and conĀ tent.
