AB - ObjectivesErectile dysfunction is a common condition that can greatly affect a patient's psychosocial well-being and overall quality of life. While there are several treatment options available, penile prosthesis implantation provides a permanent solution for patients who either do not respond to or are unsuitable for other treatments. Patient satisfaction after penile prosthesis implantation is often influenced by factors such as penile length, which is important from both the patient’s and their partner’s perspectives. However, accurately predicting postoperative penile length remains a challenge. This study aimed to identify pre-surgery stretched penile length as a reliable predictor of penile length following penile implant surgery.MethodsData from three participating centers were analyzed, with penile length measurements taken both before and after surgery under various conditions using standardized methods. Only first-time (virgin) cases were included, and a complete case analysis was conducted. The primary outcome of this study was the comparison between preoperative stretched penile length and postoperative inflated penile length following penile prosthesis implantation.ResultsData on penile length before and after penile prosthesis surgery from 361 patients were analyzed. In 33% of cases, the preoperative stretched penile length matched the postoperative inflated penile length. The average difference between pre-surgery stretched length and postoperative inflated length was 1.1 cm. No significant correlation was observed between the length of the implanted cylinder and the postoperative penile length. Furthermore, the type of implant used, did not have a notable impact on the postoperative penile length outcomes.ConclusionsPreoperative stretched penile length proves to be a reliable predictor of postoperative penile length outcomes following penile prosthesis surgery. Our findings provide clinicians with a valuable tool for patient counseling, which can help improve satisfaction and quality of life for those undergoing penile prosthesis implantation.
