TY - JOUR AU - Starks, Kenneth J. AB - AbstractThe fecundity and reproductive life of the different ages of parasitizedSchizaphis graminum(Rondani) were determined at 21, 27, and 21–32°C. The life cycle and sex ratio ofLysiphlebus testaceipes(Cresson) developing from each age of parasitized aphid were determined. Greenbugs parasitized before the 4th stadium did not mature at 27 and 21–32°C, but the parasites completed their development. Aphids parasitized in the 3rd or later stadia at 21°C matured and produced offspring. Female parasites developed from 1-day-old parasitized greenbugs although the majority were males. The 1st and 2nd instars frequently were knocked off of the plant by ovipositional thrusts of the parasite, while the 4th and 5th aphid instars often fell or walked off the plant when approached or agitated by the parasite. The reproductive life of the parasitized greenbug varied from 0 to 5 days versus about 25 to 30 in nonparasitized greenbugs. The life cycle of the parasite ranged from 10 to 14 days.
