The well known facts of his life have been presented in much more interesting manner by other biographers. The personal history, the human side of Pasteur, the significance of family and religious and academic training are hardly touched on. Only the dogged persistence of Pasteur in the face of apparent failure and painful rebuke is emphasized, as well it should be, for it was the basis of Pasteur's ultimate success. Pasteur was not an unusually good student; he was by no means a genius in the usual implication of sudden flashes of inspiration and intuitive penetration of dark fields.
