TY - JOUR AU1 - Banovic, Frane AU2 - Jerry, Carmen AU3 - Howerth, Elizabeth AB - IntroductionDermal arteritis of the nasal philtrum is a rare condition characterized by well‐circumscribed deep circular to linear ulcers with recurrent episodes of bleeding that in some cases warrants emergency intervention. At this time, the therapeutic management of this condition with long‐term immunosuppressant and/or anti‐inflammatory medications (prednisone, tetracycline and niacinamide combination, topical fluocinolone, fish oil) has resulted in mixed success. A novel surgical approach involving the deep resection of the philtrum with ligation of feeding arteries has been reported as a successful alternative therapy. In this article, we describe a dermal arteritis of nasal philtrum in a dog in which surgery and medical management using oral doxycycline/niacinamide and topical fluocinolone was unsuccessful, whereas long‐lasting remission was achieved with the topical tacrolimus application without any further disease flares.Case reportA 9‐year‐old, 30 kg, intact male German shorthair pointer dog was referred to the University of Georgia Veterinary Medical Center with a two year history of progressive well‐demarcated circular ulceration targeting exclusively the skin of the nasal philtrum, accompanied by frequent episodes of haemorrhage. At the initial presentation to the referring veterinarian, a skin biopsy was obtained from an ulcer localized to the nasal philtrum and oral prednisone (1 mg/kg tapered over 30 days, Roxane Laboratories; Columbus, TI - Tacrolimus therapy for dermal arteritis of the nasal philtrum refractory to surgery and anti‐inflammatory therapy (doxycycline/niacinamide and topical fluocinolone) in a dog JF - Veterinary Dermatology DO - 10.1111/vde.12502 DA - 2018-01-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/wiley/tacrolimus-therapy-for-dermal-arteritis-of-the-nasal-philtrum-IeDSX08nJh SP - 85 EP - e35 VL - 29 IS - 1 DP - DeepDyve ER -
