TY - JOUR AB - Reactions 1917, p444 - 30 Jul 2022 Visual hallucinations: case report A 79-year-old woman developed visual hallucinations during treatment with eszopiclone, lisinopril, lorazepam and metoprolol- tartrate for sleep disturbances, generalised anxiety disorder or hypertension [dosages, routes and duration of treatment to reaction onset not stated]. The woman had a history of Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, hyperlipidaemia, hypertension, major depression disorder, type 2 diabetes mellitus, generalised anxiety disorder, glaucoma and discoid lupus erythematosus. She had been receiving treatment with metoprolol tartrate, lisinopril, amlodipine, simvastatin, metformin, escitalopram, diclofenac, timolol and triamcinolone [triamcinolone acetonide]. Over the previous 30 years, she had been receiving additional treatment with hydroxyzine and lorazepam for insomnia and generalised anxiety disorder, respectively. She presented for a telemedicine encounter for an initial psychiatric evaluation, where she was noted to have tactile hallucinations, while receiving treatment for 6 months and after increased dose of escitalopram. The woman started receiving treatment with risperidone. Within 4 weeks, her tactile hallucinations resolved; however, she experienced a new severe visual hallucinations. She began to see various people being physically around her in a room at bedtime.
