In his SCI Summer Lecture, Booth told SCI members that ‘since the halcyon days, there has been a significant period of change and decline in UK manufacturing in general, and our industry in particular, leaving many gaps in the supply chains. This in turn has led to greater inefficiency and loss of competitiveness for the remaining industry.’‘The need to rebalance the economy means that there is an urgent need to reconnect these supply chains and create completely new
