TY - JOUR AU - Shearer, David AB - Veterinary Parasitology, 3rd edn. MA Taylor , RL Coop , RL Wall , Blackwell Publishing Ltd , Oxford, UK , 2007 , 904 pages , ISBN 978‐1‐4051‐1964‐1 , £65 . Parasites and parasitic diseases are close to the heart of many veterinary dermatologists. They are one of the most interesting aspects of veterinary dermatology with the variable host–parasite interaction and the fact that some produce cutaneous lesions in our clients as well as their pets. For these reasons veterinary dermatologists have an interest in textbooks on parasites, especially those affecting the skin. The first thing that strikes you when you pick up the third edition of Veterinary Parasitology compared to previous editions is its size and the fact that it would benefit from a hard‐back rather than soft‐back format. This edition has considerably expanded chapters on entomology and protozoology compared to the previous editions, and these chapters are of particular interest to veterinary dermatologists. The authors have written this edition for a range of individuals from students, practising veterinarians and veterinary researchers. It now bears little resemblance to the first edition that evolved from undergraduate notes on parasitology at The Glasgow Veterinary School.
