Lenin Machine Construction Plant at Nevski, escape of gas to the ma- chine room occurs through the terminal seal of the shaft which causes an in- crease in the concentration of carbon monoxide in the air. The necessary hermeticity in a pump of the indicated type should be pro- vided by labyrinth and terminal seals of the shaft. However, during use, the seal ring for the labyrinth seal often wears out. Especially rapid wear occurs when working with dusty blast-furnace gas; due to uneven deposition of dust on the blades of the working wheel, its initial balance is destroyed. A large amount of gas begins to penetrate to the terminal seal which consists of a vane and girdle with two seal rings, and it cannot provide the necessary hermeticity. At several metallurgical plants a suction hood is installed above the ter- minal seal of the pump shaft. The escaping gas together with air is sucked off and released to the atmosphere. This method gives positive results, but requires TI - No carbon monoxide detected JF - Metallurgist DO - 10.1007/BF00739541 DA - 2004-11-19 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/no-carbon-monoxide-detected-FrffR00O0y SP - 658 EP - 658 VL - 8 IS - 12 DP - DeepDyve ER -
