To give it its full name, Chat Generative Pre‐trained Transformer is an AI tool that can generate long and often accurate texts similar to those produced by humans. This has impacted academia in different ways: while ChatGPT may produce seemingly creative texts in poetry and fiction or help students to better formulate their thoughts and arguments for a writing assignment, it greatly increases the risk of producing misleading or erroneous texts because, as explained below, ChatGTP tends to disregard facts or even “hallucinates” fake facts.… ChatGTP tends to disregard facts or even “hallucinates” fake facts.AI text generation is a clear challenge for teachers, lecturers and professors who rely on essay assignments, which are usually electronically submitted, to assess their students' knowledge and skills. Their main concern has so far been plagiarism, but that can be easily detected using software. For now, however, there is no publicly available software that can reliably identify texts generated by the most recent version of ChatGPT.
