Khmel'niker One of the quantities characterizing the rheological properties of granular-fibrous packings is the coefficient of side pressure (CSP) Ps K= p-~, where Ps is the side pressure, kgf/cm 2, and Pa is the axial pressure, kgf/cm 2. The side pressure of packings and powdered materials has been investigated by many authors who have determined the absolute values of the CSP as well as its dependence on various factors. However, there are considerable discrepancies between the results obtained in these investigations. For example,' according to [1], the metal powders (iron, copper, lead, etc.) have a considerable effect on the CSP values (K = 0.2-0.35). Coke-graphite andcarbon-black powders produce lower K values (K = 0.2). For nonmetallic eleetricM carbons K = 0.4-0.85 depending on the binder and masticaior contents. The author of [2] noted that the CSP changes with axial pressure but remains constant (unity) when the packing is sufficiently plastic and the stuffing box tightly filled.
