AB - Abstract The preparation of a blood byproduct (hemolysate) that is used for tonometry in a blood gas laboratory is described. This hemolysate is prepared from out-of-date units of whole blood and red cells. The tonometry of hemolysate with appropriate C0 2 mixtures provides acceptable ranges for pH and blood gas quality control.
