Physical examination showed a pink–brown plaque meas- uring 2 × 1.8 cm in diameter (a). Dermoscopy revealed a pigmented pattern resembling leaf-like areas. To avoid unnecessary surgical removal, dynamic optical coher- ence tomography (b) and reflectance confocal microscopy (c) were performed, which both showed tumour islands 1,2 (stars). Thanks to noninvasive imaging, a diagnosis of pigmented basal cell carcinoma was made and consider- ing its indolent biologic behaviour, definitive surgery was scheduled for after delivery. 1 1 Carmen Cantisani, Alberto Taliano, 2,3 1 1 Caterina Longo, Giulio Bortone, Luca Gargano, 1 1 Noah Musolff and Giovanni Pellacani UOC of Dermatology, Policlinico Umberto I Hospital, Sapienza Medical School of Rome, Rome; Azienda Unità Sanitaria Locale - IRCCS di Reggio Emilia, Skin Cancer Center, Reggio Emilia; and Dermatology Department, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy Correspondence: Carmen Cantisani.
