TY - JOUR AU - Skendzel, Laurence, P. AB - Abstract The performance of tests for detection of antibodies to rubella has come under scrutiny from governmental agencies and professional organizations. The National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards addressed the important technical issues in rubella testing by releasing three guidelines dealing with (1) specimen handling and use of rubella tests in the clinical laboratory, (2) performance criteria for rubella reagent sets, and (3) recommendations for preparation of a rubella IgM antibody reference material. The College of American Pathologists has responded by preparing three IgG rubella reference preparations for use by manufacturers and clinical laboratories. These guidelines and standards are important additions to laboratory medicine.
