Lyalin Titanium and its alloys are, at present, used to a very limited extent in the manufacture of machine parts subjected to wear. This is because these materials have low antifriction properties and are prone to galling (scuffing). The Moscow Chemical Engineering Institute and the Scientific-Research Institute of Chemical Engineering have jointly conducted investigations on the process of welding (surface adhesion) in titanium and its alloys, and methods of eliminating this phenomenon. The investigations were conducted on specimens made from commercial types of titanium and its alloys: VT1-0, 0T4-1, VT5, AT6, VT3-1, and VT6. The alloys were made by the Baikov Institute of Metal- lurgy (IMET) and were tested in the "as-supplied" condition. Besides the above types a few new alloys developed by IMET were also tested. The antifriction properties of the material were evaluated by the fol- lowing parameters: galling resistance determined according to the method in [1] using a four-roll friction- testing machine; changes in the coefficient of friction under different test conditions using the fiat surface - spherical indentor method; wear resistance using the MI1-M machine; and test results TI - Improving the antifriction properties of titanium alloys JF - Chemical and Petroleum Engineering DO - 10.1007/BF01143567 DA - 2005-01-28 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/springer-journals/improving-the-antifriction-properties-of-titanium-alloys-C68EvIG8DM SP - 645 EP - 646 VL - 8 IS - 7 DP - DeepDyve ER -
