TY - JOUR AU - Richman, Jack M. AB - The purpose of this investigation was to assess the effects of middle school students' academic risk and out-of-home placement status on the proportion of students indicating that they received each of eight types of social support, the sources of support they identified, and their school behavior, affect, and outcomes. Results indicate that students not identified as academically at risk and in out-of-home placement reported receiving fewer types of support than any other students. In addition, at-risk youths perceived more support from their neighbors and less support from their teachers, peers, and adult caretakers than other students. Finally, results indicate that students in out-of-home care did not perform as well in school as other students. The implications of the findings for school social workers are discussed.
