We have investigated a copper base compos ition material reinforced with molybdenum fibers designed for sealing equipment operating with gaseous fluoride media. Problems of obtaining a straight metal fiber have been widely described in the literature [1-7] but until now standard production of equipment for this has not been introduced. There is information only in [6] on curved fiber without a description of equipment for producing it. In connection with this, to produce composition material we have developed a machine for cutting wire into straight and curved fibers (Fig. 1). To produce the fiber filament, wire of MChl group A molybdenum with a diameter of 20 ~ [Technical Specification (TU) 48-9-47-- 67] and a tensile strength of at = 173 kgf/mm 2 is used. The cluster of elastic molybdenum wires 1 is wrapped with two 50-~-diameter copper wires to form the braid.
