TY - JOUR AU - Raimy, Victor C. AB - Technical developments in sound recording are apparently fomenting a revolution in training and research in clinical psychology. While there are many recorders on the market the difficulty lies in the lack of a good sound recorder which meets all the requirements for clinical work. Under the heading of cost of apparatus, the initial cost, maintenance, recording costs, transcription costs are discussed. Under operation the recording period, the operator, noise, portability, playback, rewinding, monitoring, recording units are discussed. Under the heading of performance, intelligibility, determinants of performance, and playback are discussed. The writer has not been able to find an existing recorder which meets all requirements in the above lists. List prices are only approximate. Two tables are given, one listing names and addresses of the manufacturers of recording equipment, the other table listing the pertinent characteristics for most of the major recorders now on the market which are suitable for recording.
