AB - Abstract Using the branched-cyclic hydrocarbon fraction from Green River Shale as a model, we have undertaken the development of a chromatographic system for the isolation of milligram quantities of high purity terpenoid hydrocarbons. Partial separations have been obtained by liquid adsorption and gel filtration chromatography. However, due to the complexity of the mixtures, the non-polar character of these compounds and the relatively small differences in boiling points and molecular size, gas chromatography is more suited for their separations. High temperature stationary phases and the practical use of small bore, high efficiency GC columns in preparative work have been investigated. This content is only available as a PDF.
