AB - This article is concerned with the imagery and topography of London as represented in British and German cinema of the 1920s. It claims that literary renditions were an important source for cinematic iconography and were a frequent frame of reference in cinematic discourse. Although German techniques and personnel were, undeniably, an influence on British film production, we should also consider a more circular pattern of exchange and a more purposeful system of appropriation than the term adaptation might suggest.
