Translation, Imitation and Literacy, Woodbridge: Tamesis, 2018, pp. XIV, 289, ISBN: 9781855663220, £60 Gerard Gonza´lez Germain Springer Nature B.V. 2018 Historically, scholarship on the classical and humanist tradition in medieval Spain has leaned heavily towards Castile: Ottavio di Camillo’s 1972 doctoral dissertation ‘Spanish Humanism in the Fifteenth Century’ (more accurately renamed El humanismo castellano del siglo XV in the 1976 Spanish translation) is a good example of this tendency. As a consequence, it has taken a long time to recognize that, in reality, most of the vernacular translations and first editions of the Latin classics in the Crown of Aragon antedate (and influenced) their Castilian counterparts. Among the causes of this neglect is the fact that much of the scholarly output concerning medieval Catalan letters was traditionally written in Catalan. In the last decade or so, the increased number of publications in English has made available to the international community a century-long tradition of scholarship. The book under review contributes to this trend, while providing, for the first time, a monographic approach
