AB - Diathermy smoke has been studied for over three decades and data has been collected to establish its composition. Although its full structure has not been established, the compounds confirmed pose a health hazard to all exposed. Recommendations suggest that theatre staff need to protect themselves using smoke evacuating systems and masks. This review looks at the compliance of theatre staff within these guidelines and the reasons behind noncompliance.
