AB - Abstract In a review of 1604 cases of alopecia areata seen in the Department of Medical-Surgical Dermatology of Virgen Macarena University Hospital, Seville, Spain, during an 18-year period (1975-1993), we have observed several cases of a new pattern of hair regrowth that we term androgenetic alopecia type with male or female pattern1 and 3 cases with a different form of presentation or onset of alopecia that were named other types. The clinical types observed in the 1604 cases are summarized in the Table. In these 3 cases the patients lost all their scalp hair except around the periphery (Figure).
