TY - JOUR AU - Zhou, Haiyang AB - Dear Sir,Single‐incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS) has been developed as a minimally invasive alternative to conventional laparoscopic surgery (CLS) for the treatment of a variety of diseases [1,2]. However, SILS is technically challenging for treating mid‐low rectal cancer, because dissection in the pelvis and transection of the low rectum can be very difficult through the single port [3]. Since the placement of a pelvic drain after low anterior resection (LAR) is mandatory for the early detection of anastomotic leaks and reduction of the need for reoperation [4], it is reasonable to perform SILS plus one LAR for mid‐low rectal cancer.A disposable, single‐incision, multiport, trocar was used through a 3‐cm transverse incision at the level of the umbilicus in the right quadrant for the scope and laparoscopic device insertion. One 12‐mm trocar inserted in the right lower quadrant served as the surgeon's dominant operating channel. Laparoscopic LAR was performed in the same manner as CLS [5]. The rectum was transected using two endoscopic linear staplers inserted from the right lower quadrant port following rectal lavage. Resection was achieved following extraction of the specimen through the incision, and anastomosis was performed with the double stapling technique using a transanally inserted circular stapler.
