TY - JOUR AU - Kazanskii, B. AB - 1. An investigation was made of the liquid products of the polymerization of ethylene at 275° and atmospheric pressure over a catalyst of nickelous oxide on a synthetic aluminum silicate having fine spherical particles. 2. After being freed from butenes, the liquid polymerizate consisted of olefins: about 45% of C6 olefins, 15% of C8 olefins, and 25% of higher-boiling olefinsj there was about 15% of hydrocarbons having odd numbers of carbon atoms in their molecules (C5, C7, etc.). 3. The C6 fraction was found to contain considerable amounts of 3-methyl-1-pentene and cis-3-methyl-2-pentene; it contained rather smaller amounts of trans-3-methyl-2-pentene, 2-methyl-1-pentene, 2-methyl-2-pentene, and cis- and trans-4-methyl-2-pentenes. 4. The C5 fraction contained considerable amounts of 2-methyl-2-butene, some 2-methyl-1-butene and cis- and trans-2-pentenes, and a small amount of 1-pentene and 3-methyl-1-butene, 5. The formation of most of the hydrocarbons found can be explained by the polymerization of ethylene; some of them can be formed from polymers by skeletal isomerization and demethylation.
