TY - JOUR AU - KANAYA,, Koichi AB - Abstract The space charge effects on ion beam focusing are studied in theory and experiment. The paths of ion beam are directly photographed. The space-charge effects can be clearly seen in a series of photographs. The beam spot size and the current density distribution are measured on the screen, and the values are compared with theoretical ones. The relationship between the beam spot size and the obtainable maximum current is introduced from theory of space-charge effects. The data may be useful in designing of ion beam instrument.
