TY - JOUR AU - Kahn,, Joseph AB - To the Editor: I think one of the speakers did a grave injustice to iontophoresis when, at the recent Annual Conference in Washington, he alluded to the great dangers of this modality in terms of “burning the hell out of a patient” and “placing an electrode on a patient, going out for a beer, and returning to find a burn.” In the first place, what competent practitioner “goes out for a beer” while treating a patient? Secondly, the minor burns occasionally incurred with iontophoresis can hardly be described as “burning the hell out of patients!” Burns of this type are certainly no more hazardous than the untoward results of other modalities, such as periosteal burns from ultrasound, heat burns from overzealous use of hot packs and infrared lamps, or diathermy contact lesions.
