TY - JOUR AU - Reese, R. Allan AB - 90 Book Reviews some good intuitive justification of a formula, as in that for the chi-squared test statistic, but generally this is lacking with not even a numerical justification for the form of the formula. There are carefully laid out tables giving the rules that need to be followed and a careful summary of the assumptions made (though no indication why these assumptions are necessary, because of the lack of mathematical proofs). No calculus is used or assumed. In general this is a book with many good points, but would need to be used with care and is not for those who want any mathematical justification of the results. P. Indeed it gives a first impression of being a coffee-table book. It is well printed and bound, hence the high price for the hardback edition. I would welcome a paperback at a price more accessible to students. Despite my enthusiasm for the content, I might fault this book in a number of places on its composition and layout.
