TY - JOUR AU - Gupta, R P AB - A three-tube pitching probe is proposed for the measurement of mean velocity, flow direction and total pressure in approximately two-dimensional, laminar or turbulent separated flows. An asymmetric arrangement of chamfered tubes flanking a central total-head tube results in a transverse dimension sufficiently small for measurements across thin shear layers or for measurements near a separation point. The probe is readily aligned in the flow direction by a pitching apparatus utilizing a modified parallelogram mechanism. Initial development, probe performance and typical measurements are described.
