TY - JOUR AU - Butch, Suzanne, H. AB - Abstract Blood inventory management is an essential part of quality assurance and fiscal management. Optimal management of blood inventory depends on the policies and procedures of the transfusion service, the blood supplier, data collection systems, and effective communication of laboratory policies. Relevant blood usage data can be used to formulate policies and procedures to minimize waste and expense. This article reviews the resources required to form a unified and effective program to manage the blood supply and presents a method for the use of blood inventory data to modify policies and procedures that affect blood inventory.
