THE EFFECT OF THE COMMONLY KNOWN VITAMINS ON TilE GROWTH OF TUBERCLE BACILLI N AO DYEr From the Research Department, National Jewish Hospital, Denver, Colorado The investigations by Lloyd,' Kligler,2 McLeod and Wyon,S Thjotta and Avery," and Davis 5 all indicate that water soluble B, or a vitamin of the similar nature is essential to the growth of pathogenic and nonĀ pathogenic bacteria. As far as the writer has been able to learn no study of this nature has been made on tubercle bacilli with the exception of that by Long 6 who reported that there occurred no increased growth of tubercle bacilli when using the commercial yeast vitamins on the market. He did not, however, describe the method used nor give the data substantiating his findings. I found 7 that the growth of tubercle bacilli in no way appears to be dependent upon substances present cells or in their metabolic products and that mediums conĀ within their taining various organic substances were suitable for growth, while on suitable nonprotein synthetic mediums no growth occurred when the medium was seeded with a thin suspension of bacilli, indicating that the essential factor TI - Food Accessory Substances (Vitamins) and Tubercle Bacilli JF - The Journal of Infectious Diseases DO - 10.1093/infdis/40.3.433 DA - 1927-03-01 UR - https://www.deepdyve.com/lp/oxford-university-press/food-accessory-substances-vitamins-and-tubercle-bacilli-5nhWKMk7Ya SP - 433 EP - 437 VL - 40 IS - 3 DP - DeepDyve ER -
