TY - JOUR AU - Gemenis, Kostas AB - Cornelis Jacobus Lammers, sociologist, passed away on May 1 st at the age of 81. I first met Cor Lammers in 2004 when I was a graduate student at Leiden University. I remember vividly his graciousness with which he received me at his home in Oegstgeest to discuss a draft of my thesis. An extremely amicable person with a great sense of humour, he never failed to support me and give useful advise even after his involvement in my project officially came to an end. Born on April 20 th , 1928 in Amsterdam, C.J. Lammers was trained as a sociologist at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and later at the University of Amsterdam where he obtained his PhD in 1963. From 1964 and until his retirement in 1993 he was professor of the Sociology of Organisation at Leiden University. From 1972 to 1973 he was a Fellow in the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) and in 1974 he surveyed the state of organisational sociology in the United States on a visit as a Fulbright Scholar. Prompted by the contact with colleagues abroad, he became in the mid 1970s one the founding fathers of the European TI - In Memoriam: C.J.
